"Catechetical ministry must be understood in relation to

Jesus' three fold mission...Its purpose is to make a person's

faith become living, conscious, and active through the

light of instruction." (NCD #32)

The Religious Education Programs of Assumption Parish

express the faith of the community and assist the

community in fulfilling the catechetical mission of the

Church as it seeks to proclaim the Good News of Jesus

and foster mature faith in its members: children, youth,

and adults.

Why send your children to Religious Education

Religious Education helps the children understand the Sacraments especially the Mass and hopefully develop a strong desire to attend regularly. They will learn to appreciate the most important rituals of our faith. The more we come to know and understand something, the more we appreciate it. For instance, how many small children will sit and watch the Superbowl? ……………It is only those who understand the game, what is going on and why. In much the same way, the more children learn about the Mass, the responses, why we do what we do; then the more likely they will pay attention and remain focused. They will learn how the Sacraments have the power to transform us when we meet Christ there.
The Catechist will reinforce your moral and ethical values. Sometimes children “turn a deaf ear to the parents”; yet, when another adult reinforces the same value, all of a sudden it seems to make sense to the child. Children tend to think that they are the only ones in their school that cannot see a certain show or stretch a certain rule. When they hear the echoes of their parent’s morality, it helps for compliance.
Catechesis shows how the Gospel fully satisfies the desires of our heart. Happiness lies in living the Catholic Faith as Christ has modeled it. The more that we learn about Jesus and His plan for our lives, the more we live with meaning and purpose in our lives. We are all called to make a difference in the world around us.
Catechesis assists the children in fostering a relationship with Jesus through developing personal prayer. They learn both the traditional prayer and spontaneous prayer and learn to pray to Jesus as a friend. Once we develop a love relationship with Jesus, we are more willing to want to please Him
Children will learn that we have a co-responsibility to be involved in the missionary activity of the church and to reach out to others in need. We are called to be Disciples of Christ by virtue of our baptism. This means bringing Christ to the world, the home, the family, the school, etc.
Your child will meet and hopefully become friends with peers with similar beliefs and morals as their own. You can reinforce the friendships that they are forming, by providing opportunities for them in playgroups or outside activities with children of similar morals and values, as well. The power of positive peer pressure is important.
